reported that a key aide to Ayman al Zawahiri recently travelled to
Morocco, using a Thai passport, pretending to be an Asian antiques
dealer. His object was to coordinate the activities of a number of

42, a British policeman, was arrested in Bangkok. Sex trafficking. He

No date - Gouled Hassan Dourad, a
Somali who was a member of a Mogadishu based network allied with al
Qaeda. He was involved in several plots, including one to shoot down
an Ethiopian airliner in Somalia.

1982 – Somalia, on the horn of Africa
directly across from the Arabian peninsula, got Soviet arms, aid and
allowed the Soviets to build a deep water harbour and airstrip, for
the use of Soviet military forces. In 1982 it received arms and aid,

built by the Soviets. Ethiopia, its enemy in 1982 received Soviet
arms.

Somalia attended by various Islamist armed groups. Bin Laden and
Iranian intelligence officers were also there. Plans for Islamic
insurgency were drawn up at the meeting.
15 April 1998 – Somalia hostage
taking. Somali militia abducted nine red cross and red crescent
workers at an airstrip north of Mogadishu. The hostages included a US
citizen, a German, a Belgiun, a French, a Norwegian, a Swiss and one
Somali. Gunmen were members of a sub-clan loyal to Ali Mahdi
Mohammed, who controlled the northern section of the capital.

12 April 2002 – An Ethiopian court
sentenced five members of the al-Itihad al-Isamiya, a Somali Islamist
group, to death. For bombing attacks that killed 27 civilians in the

3 Oct 2005 - In the lower Juba area of
Somalia gunmen shot dead a Somali national and UN security official,
Mohamuvd Mesre Gurage.
July 2006 – Iran sent more than 700
Islamist militants from Somalia to Lebanon, to fight alongside
Hezbollah in the war against Israel, a UN report said. The report
seen by the New York Times sad the militia in Lebanon provided
training and weapons to the Islamic alliance, fighting for control in
Somalia. Iran tried to trade arms for uranium from Somalia to further
