central Asia and made their capital in Herat western Afghanistan.

July 1880 – Ayub, brother of the
Emir, defeated a British force and killed 1,000 men in the west of
Afghanistan at Maiwand. (History today. Feb 2014 p31).
Aug 1880 – After an unsuccessful
attempt to occupy Afghanistan, British forces withdrew. Abdur Rahman
Khan became ruler. The prison population went from 1,500 in 1880 to
20,000 in 1896. He killed about 100,000 people during his reign.

1884 – The Russians advanced from

May 1919 – The third Afghan war broke
out in May 1919, with the Afghan army crossing the fronetier into

1 Jan 1965 – a leftist party called
Khalq (masses), was set up under Nur Mohammad Taraki. In June 1967 a
second leftist party called Parcham (banner or flag), was formed
under Babrak Karmal.
1974 – Mohammed Niazi the leader of
the Muslim Brotherhood was jailed along with 200 of his associates.
50 others fled to Pakistan where they set up opposition movements.

1978 – Less than 200 tons of dried
opium was produced in 1978 in Afghanistan, before the Soviet

27 April 1978 – Leaders of the
combined Khalq and Parcham leftist parties launched a coup. President
Daoud Khan and his supporters were killed. The Democratic republic of
Afghanistan DRA was set up. The Saur revolution was also Islamic.
5 Dec 1978 – Taraki went to Moscow
and signed with Leonid Brezhnev a treaty of friendship and
cooperation with the Soviet Union. Soviet military advisers played a
role in directing DRA military units in their war against the rebels
in the countryside.
24 Dec 1979 – Soviet forces entered
Afghanistan. Peshawar Pakistan was the HQ for the Afghan resistance
to Soviet occupation. Mujahadeen. The Saudis matched the Americans

27 Dec 1979 – The ouster of the
leftist peoples Democratic party of Afghanistan backed by Soviet

1980s – During the 1980s Afghan war
against the Soviets. Saudi Arabia’s Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz,
organised transport to Afghanistan for militants, the Mujahadeen,
from various Arab countries. He controlled Saudi charities, giving
tens of millions to the Mujahadeen. Many of these charities were on

26 June 1984 – bin Laden recorded

May 1988 – The Soviets began a staged

15 May 1988 – The Soviets began

1989 – There were more than one
million Afghans dead. Six million refugees in Pakistan and Iran. The
Soviets had 15,000 dead and 53,000 wounded. The Taliban moved in.

15 Feb 1989 – General Boris V Gromov
was commander of Soviet forces in Afghanistan. He walked into
Uzbekistan on 15 Feb 1989. The Soviets had lost 15,000 lives and
30,000 people were wounded. One to two million Afghanis died. 90% of
them were civilians. A third of the people of Afghanistan were in

Aug 1996 – Bin Laden declared war on
America from a cave in Afghanistan. US forces were still in Saudi

Sept 1996 - The Taliban were in the

soldiers.
4 Feb 1998 – 4,500 people were killed

2600 BC - Pinterest. Mohenjo-daro, the

1893 – Waziristan became an
independent territory in 1893 under the Durand line which established
the border between Afghanistan and India. In 1947 it became part of

14 May 1907 – Ayub Khan, Pakistani
general and politican, second president of Pakistan was born. He died
in 1974. (Wikipedia 14 May 2015).
30 May 1935 – Quetta 50,000 people
were killed in a 7.5 earthquake. Rapture Ready.
1947 – In 1941 the Habib bank, a
sizable bank, was owned and run by Muslims. It was set up in Bombay
at the urging of Mohammed Ali Jinnah. In 1947 when partitioned, Habib
bank moved its HQ to Pakistan becoming its biggest bank.
1950 – Pakistan and Afghanistan
signed the ATTA to give Afghanistan a landlocked country, the right
to import duty free goods through the port of Karachi. The bulk of
the sealed containers were returned to Pakistan to be sold on the
local markets.
1954 – The Binori town mosque, the
largest Sunni deobandi educational institution in Pakistan. Its head
mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai is the man behind the Taliban. The mosque

March 1956 – Pakistan first entered
the nuclear arena in March 1956 with the creation of the Atomic
energy council which was a governing board and the Pakistan Atomic
